I woke up this morning and found out about the news from Wenz and ELI's multiply. Apparently a band, called Beside had their album launch at AACC (the last surviving good gig venue in Bandung) over the weekend, and something happened during the show that caused a stampede (some said police tried to stop the show and people started fighting after that). Of course, there are reports saying people were pushing and shoving each other inside the hall, and fainting could have been caused by lack of air circulation. Some newspapers said gig-goers were given alcohol-laced drinks that made people faint. Logically, it could be a combination of both, alcohol and lack of oxygen. And in music shows like this, people dance and jump and really couldn't care less about any other people.
If it's to give any comparison, AACC in Bandung, is pretty much like the usual gig hall at MCPA here in Kuala Lumpur. But the AACC is really about twice the size of it. But like AACC, MCPA suffers the same ventilation problem, and it really is a scary thing. The gig scene here is already in trouble with the authorities and if something like AACC's tragedy happens here, it would spell 'the end' to a lot of things.
On the Indonesian side now, I can only guess that most probably after this, the authorities will be stricter at issuing permits and I can feel the pain coming to my gig organizer/label owner friends.
Will update more on this when I have more info, but the families of the 11 youngsters who died in Bandung, condolences.

Pikiran Rakyat (the best report so far) ( read the last para-- "The police wanted to stop the show after seeing so many people fainting, but it seems that more people were found on the floor after the stop order was issued.")

"Today, we throw fake USDs, tomorrow, the real thing..."
I really am curious, and I have a few hip hop people on my list here. Answers please? Or maybe links to articles/books I should read. Thank you.
Each band performed some covers (they all had to play three sets). SIGIT sang Stooges' 'Search and Destroy', while Vox performed The Beatles' 'This Boy' and Beach Boys' 'Surfer Girl'. Couple sang Naif's 'Jikalau'. I couldn't find a clip for 'Jikalau' but Vox did invite Aidil from Couple to sing 'This Boy' with them. Pretty sweet. Fahmi of the Pinholes went up on stage to sing 'Come Back Again' with Couple.
Yay!
Audio: Share a song you could listen to all day on repeat.
From the soundtrack of Janji Joni, this is the last/bonus track in the album. Yes, if you have the cd, it's supposedly sung by Salvatore Mamadou, but it's actually Zeke and the Popo. I can listen and sing to this one all day, every single day.
Mighty Love? Definitely.
The band celebrated their 14th anniversary last year with a big show at Singapore's Esplanade, and yes, i missed that too. T_T
I can't wait for tomorrow. Chances of meeting little Wan jr might be slim as he and mama dearest might be shopping at Bukit Bintang during the show. But I'll be at gig, and will try my very best not get cranky before Vomit's set, and not get trampled on during their set (predicts an agogo-surfing-riot).
Don't give up! oh ili don't give up!
If you want free passes for tomorrow's Independent Day Out Festival, listen to Suria FM at 11.30pm tonight and call in.
